What answering does, and what it cannot do

Being the first to answer an open question on someone else's project puts you ahead of projects of equal standing. It never changes your fairness score, and it can never place you ahead of a project that is owed more exposure than yours — it only replaces the coin toss between equals. A maker answering on their own project earns nothing. The replay below deliberately leaves answering out, so the table shows the rotation on its own.

How much of the queue is ranked

Every project in the queue is scored by the database, in one pass over the whole table — nothing is left out of the ranking. The queue used to rank a fixed slab of rows chosen by exposure alone and quietly ignore whatever did not fit; the count above is now the real number of projects competing, not the size of what was read. Browsing stops at 1,000 projects deep, which is a limit on paging, not on scoring.
